Dries Van Nieuwenhuyse

Performance Management Coach and Decision-Making Facilitator

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

George Bernard Shaw

Dries Van Nieuwenhuyse combines a master’s degree in Sciences with a master’s in Applied Sciences both from Ghent University, Belgium. As a biologist he soon discovered the beauty of statistics and their function as a gate to more insight in biological phenomena. As an information scientist he soon found that operational excellence in the storage, processing and use of digital information was a missing link in science.

He has continuously navigated between the business and IT and fulfilled both roles of power user and system developer/architect giving him the needed empathy for both worlds. He understands the problems that decision-makers face and the methods and ways of analysis to solve these problems and embed the results in the DNA or the overall operational processes of organizations.

He started his career at Barco Graphics in 1989 as a software engineer in the pre-press of mapping where he appreciated the power of Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis.

In 1993, he switched to the banking industry and worked as a functional analyst for Kredietbank within the domain of insurances and actuarial calculus till 1997, when he switched to Artesia Bank and took the position of Senior Data Analyst Strategic Marketing for Corporate Banking.

In 2001, he moved into the consultancy business in various positions at Dimarso as a market researcher and at Atos Origin as Senior Business Intelligence Consultant, playing both the role of power user and as decision-making system architect. Covering best of both worlds then led to the function of Senior Business and Market Intelligence Manager at Kinepolis Group N.V. where he was responsible for Strategic Business and Market Intelligence research, the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard, the data warehouse and reporting, which culminated into his first book on Performance Management at the end of 2008.

As of that period Dries took responsibilities at the management level focusing on the formulation, the implementation and the follow-up of business strategies in the temporary staffing industry at USG People till 2011 and the construction equipment sector at Volvo Construction Equipment.

Since then Dries is active in Strategic Data Mining, Business Intelligence need detection and the compilation of roadmaps for change, the formulation and implementation of Corporate BI strategies facilitating the realization of the strategy of organizations, turning reporting into decision-making through the introduction of forward-looking Strategic Intelligence, day-to-day monitoring by means of Financial Intelligence, backward though understanding of business processes through Business Intelligence and projecting historical insights back to the future through Analytical Intelligence.
